Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet: A Novel - Jamie Ford CHEESE! I was very disappointed at the way this book developed. It was over-written and extremely soap-operatic, everything was too convenient and not believable at all (EVERYONE knows each other in downtown Seattle..every time Henry goes out he bumps into the same bullies, yet later he is startled to see that he is now bigger than Chaz...BUT THEY ARE STILL IN SCHOOL TOGETHER AND PRESUMABLY SEE EACH OTHER EVERYDAY), and the entire thing was stilted and contrived.

Unfortunately, the topic (Japanese internment during WWII) could have created a much better book (see Shanghai girls for a better done version). Even the over done love story would have benefited from a slight downplay. Overall I wanted to like the book, but the author got in my way.
